Irving Penn

Today I wandered over to the Irving Penn exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. It’s an amazing selection of portraits, consisiting of the most incredible list of subjects you could think of….Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Francis Bacon, Salvador Dali, Alberto Giacometti, Woody Allen, Pablo Picasso, Harold Pinter, Marcel Duchamp, Georgia O’Keeffe, Arthur Miller, Al Pacino….well you get the idea, it’s a pretty impressive list. His use of simplicity really is amazing, every single piece is so stunning that I found myself hanging around there for quite a long time.

Anyway, I definitely recommend that you go and see it if you can.

“Sensitive people faced with the prospect of a camera put on a face they think is one they would like to show the world…very often what lies behind the facade is rare and more wonderful than teh subjects knows or dares to believe.”
